More credit, new opportunities
The year of 1991 brought a “new fnancial horizon” for
the rural producers of the municipality of Franca, in the
state of São Paulo. To keep the plantation and to continue
in the feld, it was necessary to invest on their property,
but high interest rates, and bureaucratic processes made
credit access diffcult. Once more, cooperativeness was
the solution. It was created, then, Cooperativa de Crédito
Rural Cocapec -Sicoob Credicocapec (Cooperative of
Rural Credit Cocapec – Sicoob Credicocapec).
The initiative came from 20 of them, who already made
part of the movement, and were associated to Cooperativa
de Cafeicultores e Agropecuaristas -Cocapec (Cooperative
of Coffee, and Farm and Cattle Raising Farmers. The
objective was to assist the producers of the region on
their fnancial needs. And the results were better than
they had expected. The formation of Sicoob Credicocapec
increased meaningfully Franca’s agricultural, sustainable,
and economic development.
But, to reach such level, it was necessary to
conquer its members, showing them the importance of
a credit cooperative. Two years after its constitution, it
was already possible to see the benefits generated –
commercialization of the production, and increase of
profitability with much more easily.
Today, besides special rates on credit fnancing,
Sicoob Credicocapec enables automatic tellers, and also
Internet services, being present, also in the municipalities
of Pedregulho (SP), Ibiraci (MG), and Claraval (MG). Not
to mention that, besides the distribution of the fnancial
surplus, the cooperative wants to make the difference on the
construction of a better society. It moves the local economy,
and promotes social projects that aim at the integration and
inclusion of its members, their relatives, and of the community.

O ano de 1991 trouxe um “novo horizonte fnanceiro” para
os produtores rurais do município de Franca, no estado de São
Paulo. Para manter o cultivo e continuar no campo, era preciso
investir na propriedade, mas taxas altas de juros e processos
burocráticos difcultavam o acesso ao crédito. Mais uma vez, o
cooperativismo foi a solução. Foi criada, então, a Cooperativa de
Crédito Rural Cocapec (Sicoob Credicocapec).
A iniciativa partiu de 20 deles, que já faziam parte do movi-
mento e eram associados à Cooperativa de Cafeicultores e Agro-
pecuaristas (Cocapec). O objetivo era atender às necessidades
fnanceiras dos produtores da região. E os resultados foram
muito além do esperado. A formação da Sicoob Credicocapec
potencializou sensivelmente o desenvolvimento agrícola, sus-
tentável e econômico de Franca.
Mas, para chegar a esse estágio, foi preciso conquistar seus
cooperados, mostrando a importância de uma cooperativa de
crédito. Dois anos depois de sua constituição, já era possível
ver de perto os benefícios gerados – comercializar a produção e
aumentar a rentabilidade com muito mais facilidade.
Hoje, além das taxas especiais no fnanciamento de crédi-
to, a Sicoob Credicocapec disponibiliza caixas eletrônicos e,
ainda, serviço pela internet, se fazendo presente, também, nos
municípios de Pedregulho (SP), Ibiraci (MG) e Claraval (MG).
Sem contar que, além da distribuição das sobras fnanceiras,
a cooperativa quer fazer a diferença para a construção de uma
sociedade melhor. Ela movimenta a economia local e promove
projetos sociais que visem à integração e à inclusão dos asso-
ciados, de seus familiares e das comunidades.
