dão origem à cooperativa na Paraíba
O desejo de ser o dono do próprio negócio, aliada à vontade de
preservar o meio ambiente e melhorar a vida de uma comunidade
inteira. Esses foram os motivos que levaram um grupo de 28 arte-
sãos a criarem a Arteza – cooperativa de benefciamento de couro
que atua em todas as etapas da produção, desde o curtimento até
a confecção do produto fnal.
Criada em 1998, a Arteza surgiu para dar acabamento às peças
de couro produzidas na região do Cariri, no estado da Paraíba.
No início, o empreendimento contava com 28 artesãos ativos na
produção de artigos de couro em geral: bolsas, jaquetas, sapatos,
cintos e similares. Hoje, reúne 72 cooperados e já envolve 54 famílias
no trabalho, tendo um faturamento mensal de cerca de R$ 200 mil.
A Arteza se orgulha em não utilizar produtos químicos no curti-
mento da pele animal, um diferencial que não agride o meio ambien-
te e agrada aos clientes – especialmente na região Sudeste, onde
seus produtos estão sendo comercializados.

The will to grow and be the owner of its own business, combined
with the will to preserve the environment, and improve the life of the
whole community were the reasons a group of 28 artisans had to create
Arteza – a cooperative that benefts leather and works on all phases of
production, from the tanning to the confection of the fnal product.
Arteza was created in 1998, and appeared to give the fnal touch
on the leather pieces produced in the region of Cariri, in the state of
Paraíba. In the beginning the enterprise had 28 active artisans on the
production of leather articles in general, such as: bags, jackets, shoes,
belts, and alike. Today, it gathers 72 members, and already involves
54 families in the job, having a monthly revenue of around R$ 200
thousand.
Arteza is proud of not using chemical products on the tanning of
the animal skin, a differential that does not harm the environment, and
pleases clients – especially in the southeast region, where its products
are being commercialized.
