Sustainable energy to grow
To cooperate is to undertake. For more than 50 years bringing
light to the extreme south of Santa Catarina, the successful history
of Cooperativa de Eletrifcação Rural Sul Catarinense -Cersul
(Cooperative of Rural Electrifcation of Santa Catarina-Cersul) justifes
such statement. Cersul started in the city of Turvo, in 1961, through
the will of 25 members. Today, it appears as the biggest cooperative
association of the region, with 13 thousand members.
At frst, the assistance was limited to the original cities, Meleiro
and Araranguá. But, thanks to investment in technology, Cersul
gained exclusive supplying permission for other four municipalities of
the state: Ermo, Morro Grande, and Timbé do Sul. Its electric network
started to have, then, more than two thousand kilometers of extension.
Dividing the concession with other cooperatives and concessionaires,
it also assists other six places, with the total of 15 thousand consumer
units in 11 municipalities.
This growth is also a consequence of the attention given to
the quality of the services, which has been acknowledged through
international certifcations, such as ISO 9001, in December 2010,
for example. In the following year, Cersul implanted PLC system
(Power Line Communications). Thus, by reading the consume units
measurer, the monitoring is made, by the cooperative, directly from
its central unit.
And the results reached since its foundation, in 1961, do not
refect only the cooperative’s progress, but the progress in the whole
assisted region. Its benefts are extended, also, to future generations,
with the execution of activities that reinforce the importance of
sustainable development, and of entrepreneurship. They are incentive
actions to environmental preservation, and of professional guidance.

Cooperar é empreender. Há 50 anos levando
luz ao extremo sul de Santa Catarina, a história
de sucesso da Cooperativa de Eletrifcação Ru-
ral Sul Catarinense (Cersul) faz jus à afrmativa.
A Cersul surgiu na cidade de Turvo, em 1961,
pela força de vontade de 25 cooperados. Hoje,
aparece como a maior sociedade cooperativa da
região, com 13 mil associados.
Inicialmente, o atendimento se limitava às
cidades de origem, Meleiro e Araranguá. Mas
graças ao investimento em tecnologia, a Cersul
obteve permissão exclusiva de abastecimento
em outros quatro municípios do estado: Ermo,
Morro Grande e Timbé do Sul. Sua rede elétrica
passou a ter, então, mais de dois mil quilômetros
de extensão. Dividindo a concessão com outras
cooperativas e concessionárias, ela atende, ain-
da, outras seis localidades, somando 15 mil uni-
dades consumidoras, em 11 municípios.
Esse crescimento também é consequência do
olhar atento à qualidade dos serviços, o que lhe
rendeu certifcações internacionais, como a ISO
9001, em dezembro de 2010. No ano seguinte,
a Cersul implantou o sistema PLC (
Power Line
Communications
). Assim, a cooperativa faz o
monitoramento, com a leitura dos medidores das
unidades consumidoras, diretamente da central.
E os resultados alcançados desde sua funda-
ção, em 1961, não retratam apenas o progresso
da cooperativa, mas de toda a região atendida.
Seus benefícios são estendidos, também, às fu-
turas gerações, com a realização de atividades
que reforçam a importância do desenvolvimento
sustentável e do empreendedorismo. São ações
de incentivo à preservação do meio ambiente e
de orientação profssional.
