in the hinterland
As they were tired of walking for about 50 km to make
fnancial transactions in commercial banks, 50 dwellers
from the municipality of Pintadas, in the countryside of
Bahia, got together to solve the problem. The group put
all their savings together – R$ 10 thousand, in total –
and created a rural credit cooperative: Sicoob Sertão.
The cooperative was founded in 1996, and
started to assist the community of Pintados, and,
simultaneously, the dwellers from the neighboring
municipalities of Capela do Alto Alegre, Ipirá, Várzea
da Roça, and Itaberaba. The company’s vocation for
financial inclusão of the sertanejo (inlander) brought
credibility to the trademark, and helped the unit to
rise in the financial market.
Sicoob Sertão is today one of the biggest rural
credit cooperatives of Bahia, contributing for the socio-
economic growth of that region of Brazil.

Cansados de ter de andar cerca de 50 km para
realizar transações fnanceiras em bancos comer-
ciais, 50 moradores do município de Pintadas, no
interior da Bahia, se mobilizaram para solucionar
o problema. O grupo juntou todas as economias de
que dispunham – R$ 10 mil, no total – e criaram
uma cooperativa de crédito rural: a Sicoob Sertão.
Fundada em 1996, a cooperativa começou a
atender a comunidade de Pintados e, simultanea-
mente, os moradores dos municípios vizinhos de Ca-
pela do Alto Alegre, Ipirá, Várzea da Roça e Itabera-
ba. A vocação da empresa para a inclusão fnanceira
do sertanejo trouxe credibilidade à marca e ajudou a
unidade a despontar no mercado fnanceiro.
A Sicoob Sertão é, hoje, uma das maiores coope-
rativas de crédito rural da Bahia, contribuindo para
o crescimento socioeconômico regional do Brasil.
